The Central South University Human Rights Center Held the Symposium to Study the Spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Important Speech on “Unswervingly Following China’s Human Rights Development Path to Better Promote the Development of China’s Human Rights Cause ” and the Work Summary and Outlook Meeting
On the afternoon of April 13, 2022, Central South University Human Rights Center, as a national human rights education and training base, held a symposium to study the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech on “Unswervingly Following China’s Human Rights Development Path to Better Promote the Development of China’s Human Rights Cause” and a summary and outlook meeting of the Center’s work. Executive Director Mao Junxiang, Executive Deputy Director Yang Qingwang, and research fellows Xu Jing, Wang Jinwen, Liu Qiang, Yi Ling, Jin Dabao, Li Juan, Xu Lin, Cheng Neng, Wang Jian, Zheng Zexing, and Liu Zhuoying of the Central South University Human Rights Center attended the symposium. Mao Junxiang presided over the meeting, meanwhile the participating scholars talked about the future work, combined with the learning experience.
Executive Director Mao Junxiang, said that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech named “Unswervingly Following China’s Human Rights Development Path to Better Promote the Development of China’s Human Rights Cause”, delivered at the 37th Collective Study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, recalled the glorious history of the CPC in respecting and protecting human rights. It summarized the brilliant achievements of China’s human rights protection since the 18th CPC National Congress, presented six experiences of China’s human rights protection, and pointed out the direction of China’s human rights promotion in the future. Xi’s important speech, showcasing the core principles of the theory and practice of China’s human rights protection in the new era, is the new guidelines to promote China’s human rights cause and the direction for the future work of human rights research of the Central South University Human Rights Center.
Chaired by Professor Mao Junxiang, the participating scholars put forward constructive suggestions on the work of the Central South University Human Rights Center, and made plans and arrangements for the work of the Center this year.
Professor Mao Junxiang, as the Executive Director of the Central South University Human Rights Center, summed up the meeting. He suggested that Chinese human rights scholars should be “indomitable and steadfast” in their research. Not only must they focus on current issues, follow the hot spot and serve the society, but also necessarily take a long-term view and make breakthroughs in basic theories of human rights at the same time, so as to provide rich theoretical resources for the construction of academic system, disciplinary system and discourse system of human rights with Chinese characteristics.
The presentation of the HRUG-work during the conference, the emphasis of the HRUG-principle that each country should promote human rights protection in the light of its specific situation, and that there should not be only one set of human rights discourse in the world, underlined the openness of the Chinese discourse.
